Enjoy the breathtaking scenery and tranquility of the beautiful dales

Escape the hustle and bustle of daily life while exploring the miles of hills, moorland and waterfalls of the dale.

Arkengarthdale and Swaledale are the two most northerly Yorkshire Dales joining at the picturesque village of Reeth. Arkengarthdale is famed for featuring in the TV series "All Creatures Great and Small". Shepherds Lodge and much of the surrounding area featured in the series based on the books about the Yorkshire vet, James Herriot.

Surrounding the cottage are fields of wildflowers along with traditional dales barns. Grouse, black grouse, pheasants, curlews and lapwings can all be seen within a short walk from the cottage. There are several walks either from the cottage door or a short drive away to suit all ages and abilities. There are endless scenic drives around the dales through an array of unspoilt dales villages with village greens and traditional pubs. The villages of Reeth, Low Row, Gunnerside, Muker, Keld and Thwaite are all within a ten mile radius of the cottage and of course the famous Tan Hill Inn (the highest Inn in Britain sitting at 1,732 feet above sea level) is only 5.5 miles away.



Fine Foods and Delicious Ales

Delight in appetising dishes and tasty beverages from the surrounding public houses and restaurants. Situated nearby is the Charles Bathurst Inn, which serves delicious ales and great food. Also close by is the historic Tan Hill Inn, which is the highest pub in Britain, and remarkably dates all the way back to the 17th century. At 1,732 feet above sea level, the Tan Hill Inn is a world famous attraction for walkers and tourists.
